Today we rode the D8, from Split to Dubrovnik, next to the Adriatic Sea. It was a spectacular ride and as I was doing it I sent a special prayer on behalf of all my motorcyclist friends so that one day you can have the joy of doing a magic road (if you have done it already, then do it again).
Here are some more of the "best of the best" photos for the day, but if you have time check the others as well. We literally ran out of time for stopping so many times to take photos and Paula was clicking away while we were riding as well.
We had another good breakfast in our hotel. We were very happy with standard as everything (internet, shower, aircon) worked perfectly. We left Split at about 1pm after having a good coffee at the coffee bar (good tip found in Trip Advisor).
The way out of Split was quite easy. We have really enjoyed our stay in this city and thank the Argentinian bikers we met in Siena and suggested we visit and stay for at least a couple of days. We were here for 3 days and 4 nights.
We stopped for lunch at Tucepi. It is located on the Adriatic coast of Dalmatia known as Makarska riviera, about 5 km southeast of Makarska, population 1,763 (2001). It is a popular tourist destination thanks to its glorious coastline, its opportunities for sports and its excellent accommodation. Our lunch was very good. Paula had fish whereas I had pork chops.
For about 30 minutes we rode in Bosnia Herzegovina and I am super excited we got a sticker for the bike.
Bosnia Herzegovina is almost landlocked, except for the 20 kilometres (12 miles) of coastline on the Adriatic Sea surrounding the town of Neum and that is what we rode. Unfortunately we did not find a flag :-(.
Going through the borders was a piece of cake. When they saw the Finnish number plate they immediately waved us through. Kiitos Suomi.
Although we arrived already at dusk, Dubrovnik had a good feel to it. Let's see how it goes over the next couple of days.
We did get upgraded on our room and we are staying in a luxury suite with an amazing view. It was too late in the evening to get a good picture but I am sure tomorrow will be a great sight.
For dinner we had room service. It felt good to stay in our beautiful and large one-bedroom suite. We also ate lighter and healthier.
Tomorrow it seems weather will take a turn for the worse and we will probably get rain. Seeing that we have now been over 3 months on the road and have had very little rain, I suppose the statistics are against us.
